You Know What Really Grinds My Gears? [Sep. 11th, 2008|09:51 pm]

People, but what else is new?

Today, I'm offended by the people who post messages on this day about "remembering 9/11" and going so far as to post the horrific pictures of that day. Is this bullshit really necessary? I won't deny that, as Americans, we need to realize the world isn't perfectly safe and there's danger out there. We won't forget that. But why REHASH this shit on this day every time it comes around? I can understand doing it on the first anniversary, and maybe even the fifth, but there comes a time where we have to just move on. We wallow in this 9-11 shit. Since when in the history of man has it ever been good to DWELL on something horrible that has happened to us? We grieve, we accept the reality, and we move on and become STRONGER.

But it's not just this specifically. It's the insincerity in posting this "remember" shit on this day. If it was that important to post "remember" messages, it doesn't make sense to do it just on one day. These are the same assholes who do nice things for their lovers ONLY on Valentine's Day, and is full of happiness and joy and love for their family ONLY during the holidays. They have beliefs about certain things needing to be done, but ALWAYS squeak by doing the BARE MINIMUM.

Don't come to me with this "remember 9/11" nonsense, all all the potential political ideas that come with that statement (such as "we fight them over there so we don't have to fight them here" and "freedom isn't free" ) when on 9/12, you will be back to your normal way of life as if nothing ever happened. It's lazy, and it's hypocritical.

With that said, we should post "Remember 12-7-41!", and see how many people have no idea what we're talking about. Better yet, try "Remember 4-19-95!" which up until 9-11-2001, was the worst terrorist attack this country has faced (there might be people here who don't remember the Oklahoma City Bombing. If not, go look that up or try "Timothy McVeigh" in a Wikipedia search engine. That way you can still call yourself a Wise Tit ; - ) ... Or maybe "Wise Ol' Tit". Take your pick. )

"Since when in the history of man has it ever been good to DWELL on something horrible that has happened to us?"

It's never been a good idea, but people do it over EVERYTHING. It's almost as if people look for something to be miserable over. That's one of the things Huxley made sure to leave out of future civilization that actually made some sense - THE PAST. There's no point, it's all said and done already and can't be changed. It's unhealthy to dwell on the past.

But even so, it's understandable that people would do so if it directly affected them and really messed things up for them - as unhealthy it may be... But the people who just post it like it's a glitter graphic on myspace and don't really care all that much? Those are the really irritating ones.

I'm not going to be pissed at someone who puts flowers on their grandpa's grave every year after he died for the rest of their life, but the people who just do it to go with the motions and pretend to give a shit are idiots.
