Just some thoughts

I was thinking to myself last week while I was out walking if focusing on yourself and making yourself happy is selfish. I decided that it can or can't be. If you make yourself happy at the expense of others than obviously that seems selfish, but the way I see it in my case where I'm trying to make myself happy by making positive changes in my life I don't see it as selfish. I hope that my positive outlook rubs off on the people around me, and I find that the happier I become mixed with my new sense of optimism makes me more in the mood to be around people, to do things with or for them, and even if it's as simple as just keeping someone company or listening to them talk about something. So I think that being optimistic, thinking and acting positively, working on your self image - those kinds of things that could make someone happy - ultimately effects everyone around them in a good way so I don't find it selfish. Of course there is an exception to everything and I suppose these things could somehow lead to someone becoming arrogant or something along those lines, which then could negatively effect people around them, but does that really constitute the person as someone who was selfish looking after themselves to find happiness. I don't think so. I think it's more of an unfortunate negative outcome. Anyhow, just a couple thoughts on that.
